Thursday’s Band + Americano

There’s a bit of folk, a dash of country, a touch of Spanish, a cajun flourish, even a whisper of rock with Cambridge-based Thursday’s Band. And a healthy dose of classical, when virtuoso strings start to soar over locked-down guitars. The songs are mostly written by the various band members, but the band also has a repertoire of tunes, set against occasional covers of favourite songs.

The band consists of: Mark Gamon – guitar, voice; Matt Kelly – fiddle, mandolin, viola, voice; Rhys Wilson – guitar, voice; David Cammish – bass.

We are delighted to welcome back to the club acoustic duo, Americano. Consisting of local musicians Viv Lucas and Al Hewson, they perform tributes to the songs of Neil Young and Johnny Cash.

Viv Lucas, has been performing his Southern Man homage to Neil Young since 2007 and club members may know him as the inspiration behind our annual Folk round the Tree summer festival, being a tireless fundraiser for MND. Viv is a singer-songwriter with two albums of his own songs under his belt.

Al Hewson’s varied musical career has seen him found and front a string of hard-working concert bands and collaborate with many award winning national and international musicians. He has performed on national radio and at festivals up and down the country, and he’s been singing standards and lesser-known numbers from the Man In Black’s extensive back catalogue for almost 50 years, performing both solo as John E Cash and with Americano.
